I’m getting to this very late – haven’t updated this site in a year or two. I was delighted with Por Piedad Teatro’s production of “Apuntes Sobre El Deterioro de mi Madre” or “Notes on My Mother’s Decline” in Spanish, last winter in Mexico City. Antonio Vega and Concepcion Marquez starred in the piece, which was beautifully directed by Ana Graham.
October 2023: I was awarded a Lortel Foundation Micro-commission to work further on my Mississippi project.
May 2023: I was awarded a grant from Barnard College, where I teach playwriting, to support the writing and development of “Moseley.”
“Moseley” will draw upon the troubled and troubling history of my Mississippi forebears, many of whom were enslavers. Via this history, and via a personal lens, an examination of my own place in the world, I hope to uncover and explore links between the past and the present.
I’ve worked on much of this material in prose form, am taking a different approach here as I write a play on the subject. The grant will support travel to Mississippi, and also a workshop of the script, once it is completed.
I’m thrilled to be working with Obie winners Ari Fliakos and Caroline Lagerfelt. Both are terrific, versatile and experienced actors who will bring so much to our production. To read more about the whole cast and artistic team, click here.
I’m thrilled to have been awarded a Creative Engagement Grant from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in support of my upcoming autumn production.
In August 2018, I was awarded a grant from The Artist’s Patron Fund to support my next production. I am grateful for the support!
“Summit”, a new play that Andy is writing for Ana Graham and Antonio Vega of Por Piedad Teatro, was developed during a residency at Berkeley Rep Ground Floor in June 2018. Along with Ana and Antonio, the performers were Dinah Berkeley, and Andy.
An explosive comedy about love, relationships, and the consequences of a lousy backhand.
